Happy Holidays!

Confessions of an Innkeeper:

My name is Michelle and I am not an organized or well-prepared holiday shopper.  I try to be.  Every year, I convince myself I’ll not only buy Christmas cards, but I’ll actually mail them.  Get cute little gift tags and neatly address each gift.  Make my lists, do my shopping, and have everything tidily wrapped under the tree – a tree that will go up the day after Thanksgiving.  Yet somehow, every year, I find myself standing in line at Walmart on Christmas Eve with a headache, sore feet, and a sense of exhausted desperation.  However, I still completely and utterly love Christmas morning. Every year.

Quote: “Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind.”
Valentine Davies

Fun fact:

Head Housekeeper at IBB Kelsi loves to play Kenny G’s “The Classic Christmas Album” over and over.  And over.  Starting in October.  Every day.  Until others on the staff (who shall remain nameless) want to put it through the wood-chipper and laugh evilly as the shattered pieces fly.  Not because we hate Christmas music but because there should always be boundaries in the workplace.  This year, I’m putting a Joe Diffie “Mr. Christmas” CD in the Kenny G case so that Kelsi can learn to sing “Leroy the Redneck Reindeer.”

We’ll pick a new book read in our January blog post.  In the meantime, Happy Holidays!

November Already?

Confessions of an Innkeeper:

My name is Michelle and I love pie.  Apple pie, chocolate pie, peanut butter pie, butter beer pie – the options are endless. November is officially the best pie month of the year, when no one considers multiple pieces of multiple varieties of pie to be a bad thing.  Elastic waistbands and cozy hoodies allow you the extra room to eat pie with abandon and it’s a beautiful thing.  Until January, when the world scrambles into resolution and get healthy mode and your biggest regret becomes the bad life choices you made when celebrating November Pie.

Quote: “Cut my pie into 4 pieces, I don't think I could eat 8.”
Yogi Berra

Fun fact:

November 22, 1980 provided the long-awaited answer to one of life’s crucial questions; “Who shot J.R.?”  That date will forever remind me of the Thanksgiving that my Grandma came to visit and insisted on dinner in front of the tv with complete and utter silence in the house.  I didn’t understand the urgency then, but having now lived through many season finale cliffhangers, I totally get it. IBB staff often debates important plot topics of our favorite shows while we work our way through daily housekeeping.
