Won’t You Be My Valentine?

Confessions of an Innkeeper:

My name is Michelle and I do not love winter.  I wouldn’t say I hate winter because hate is a pretty strong word, but we’re not exactly friends. I’m not especially crazy about summer either if we’re telling the truth. Mid-Spring or early Fall are really my happy groove.  My feet are always cold in February, my hair is always a mess, and I have these intense longings to do absolutely nothing but nap and eat stew.  I’m basically a bear whose natural-born instinct is to hibernate all winter long.  That would be a fantastic plan if it weren’t for the job and the kids and the stuff and the things that interfere with my nap and snack schedule.  Life just isn’t fair.  On the upside, fuzzy pajama pants are an all-year-round pleasure for me, and they make more sense in February than in August. So, there’s that.

Fun fact:

Julius Caesar was the originator of Leap Year, based on the math calculations that a calendar year is 365.242 days, so every 4th year adds up to 366 because of the extra percentage we don’t count on the other 3.  Raise your hand if you feel cheated out of that .242 of a day on those 3 odd years?  What could we accomplish with that time?  Would it equal the same amount of extra sleep I try to steal every morning by hitting the snooze button? And if the funky math and missing minutes wasn’t confusing enough, did you know that February is one of the most misspelled words in the English language?  It ranks right up there with island and opossum. These are the kind of conundrums and deep thinking that the IBB staff ponders every day like we’re scientists on the Big Bang Theory.  The answers to all of life’s big questions to be announced…
